Dans une conception du temps où le passé est le nécessaire préalable de l'avenir, la seule question qui ait un sens n'est pas "quelle est la cause?" mais "à quelle fin?" .
Les mots passé et futur perdent alors toute signification linéaire d'antériorité ou de succesion. Il existe ainsi comme une simultanéité des temps car la cause reste à venir et la cause à-venir pourrait tout aussi bien être passée.
